Gray O'Brien, Physcial Therapist, University Foot and Ankle Institute

Gray O’Brien, PT, MPT, OCS is a physical therapist licensed by the Physical Therapy Board of California. He graduated with his Master’s in Physical Therapy from Long Island University, where he completed his thesis on the rehabilitation of the lower back and core strengthening. Gray has been with UFAI since 2006.

Gray was born and raised in the Chicago area. A natural athlete, he spent time skiing, diving, and playing football, but nurtured a particular passion for tennis. He could be found on the courts as early as age five, all the way through his senior year of high school, when he won a Wisconsin State Doubles Title in 1979.

Gray worked in the commodities business in Chicago for 10 years until he decided he needed a career change. He took a year to explore his career options and with the help of career counselors and volunteer and shadowing opportunities, he found his true calling in sports rehabilitation. As a kid who was always in and out of the orthopedic clinic with an assortment of tennis and skiing injuries, Gray was always impressed with his therapists and the ways they made the rehab setting so enjoyable.

Since 1999, Gray has been working with weekend-warriors, high school, collegiate, and professional athletes, with a special focus on orthopedic/sports rehabilitation. He specializes in foot and ankle pathologies and post-operative recovery. He lives in the Santa Monica area and proudly shares a “soccer parent” status with his wife and four children.
