All Arthritic Conditions

Updated 8/21/2018

In this video Mary discusses her ankle replacement surgery and her experience of being a patient at UFAI.

The physicians at University Foot and Ankle Institute are nationally known and have helped revolutionize treatments for a myriad of foot and ankle conditions.

For the last decade UFAI has worked closely with device manufacturers in the development of new technologies and led research for many new treatments for hallux rigidus and ankle arthritis.

We're one of a few centers in the United States certified to perform all types of ankle replacement surgery.

  • Big Toe Arthritis is inflammation of the joints (the points where bones meet) at the base of your big toe. Since 90% of your body weight is placed upon the big toe, it's easy to see why this is the most common arthritis.

  • Ankle Arthritis is a progressive disease caused by an acute trauma, something degenerative, overuse or genetics, like Rheumatoid arthritis. This leads to decreased range of motion and more cartilage breakdown.

  • Gout is a type of arthritis that results from an accumulation of uric acid in the joints. Usually affecting the big toe, gout attacks can occur suddenly and are often very painful.

  • Rheumatoid Arthritis (“RA”) is a chronic autoimmune disease where the body attacks its own immune system. Early diagnosis and aggressive treatment helps avoid total joint destruction.

  • Arthritis describes over 100 diseases in three categories: Osteoarthritis (degenerative), Rheumatoid Arthritis (chronic inflammatory disease) and Post-traumatic Arthritis (post-injury).
