Less Common Conditions

Updated 2/27/2024
  • Brachymetatarsia is a relatively rare condition that occurs when one or more of the toe bones is significantly shorter than the others.

  • Plantar fasciitis pain can sometimes be a pinched nerve that runs along the ankle and into the bottom of the heel that is also known as Baxter's neuritis.

  • Foot drop, also called drop foot, is a term used to describe difficulty lifting the front part of the foot.

  • Two Peroneal Tendons are behind the outside ankle and stabilize the joint outward. These weaker muscles and tendons are prone to injury from ankle turns and rolls.

  • Cartilage damage of the ankle (osteochondral lesion of the talus) occurs from a traumatic fracture or ankle sprain. The bones hit against each other when the injury occurs, damaging the cartilage surface.

  • The tarsal tunnel is located inside the ankle next to the ankle bones. When this nerve is squeezed, or compressed, it results in tarsal tunnel syndrome (TTS).
